American comedian Janelle James was born in Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, United States.
Janelle James is a comedian, writer, and actress, known for writing Black Monday, and appearing in Crashing, Corporate, and Central Park.
James released her first comedy album Black and Mild in 2017, and in 2019, she played host on her podcast Strong Black Laughs, which featured high profile Black comedians, such as Luenell and Sherri Shepherd.
The following year, she hosted You In Danger, and the relationship-themed podcast, Gurl.
James appeared in Netflix’s The Standups, and is currently playing a major role in the ABC comedy Abbott Elementary, appearing as Ava Coleman. She also presented the ABC game show The Final Straw.
James has won several awards and accolades, including Black Reel Award, a Hollywood Critics Association TV Award, a TCA Award nomination, a Dorian Award and a Primetime Emmy Award.
In 2020, she was listed amongst Variety’s top 10 Comics to Watch.
