Sukuna vs. Yuji Itadori begins as another character death occurs

Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 238 was expected to continue with Sukuna vs. Hajime Kashimo. However, the spoilers released today suggest that Sukuna’s opponent changed towards the end after Kashimo put up a harsh struggle. The official translation is set to be released on Monday, October 9, 2023, at 12 a.m. JST in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump issue 45.

In the previous chapter, Uraume and Hakari engaged in a battle of their own as Kashimo went up against Sukuna. Kashimo revealed his Cursed technique, Mythical Beast Amber, while Sukuna used Kamutoke, a weapon left behind by Yorozu. The chapter ended with Sukuna transforming into his Heian-era form, which healed his battered body.

Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 238 spoilers: Sukuna defeats Hajime Kashimo, Yuji and Higuruma arrive

According to the spoilers, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 238 is titled Inhuman Makyo Shinjuku Showdown, Part 15. The manga will be on a break next week.

The chapter begins with Kashimo analyzing Sukuna’s form and realizing that his form is flawless. Even if he uses continuous hand signs for his attacks, his other two hands would be free. He wouldn’t get short of breath as he has two mouths. And none of his bodily functions are hindered after his bizarre transformation. Kashimo calls Sukuna “beautiful” before attacking him but is easily countered.

In the past, Sukuna had terminated the Five Void Generals and the Sun and Moon Squad of the Fujiwara clan (previously mentioned by Takako Uro and Yorozu). He also forced the Dessichin Squad of the Abe Clan (the clan of Sugawara no Michizane, who was Gojo and Yuta’s ancestor), which included Angel and remnants of the Suguwara Clan, to retreat.

Sukuna begins chanting and aims a massive Dismantle attack at him. Kashimo calls this the “The Slash that Cuts Worlds” and realizes this ended Satoru Gojo. Sukuna answers Kashimo’s question regarding love from the last chapter. He is reminded of Yorozu and how she nags him about not understanding love. He felt Gojo and Kashimo would have been better companions for her to talk with.

He sends a net of Dismantle towards Kashimo, which he presumably cannot dodge as Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 238 immediately shifts to a flashback/vision. The old Kashimo is approached by Sukuna, who tells him that Kashimo killing all the challengers who approached him with his own hands was a form of love as well.

When Sukuna tells him that the strongest are loved because they are strong and should be satisfied, Kashimo asks why Sukuna split his soul so that he could be reincarnated in a different era. Sukuna remarks that he believes love is nonsense and has never thought of someone else fulfilling his needs.

Sukuna says he has always done and taken what he desires; he does not care if no one can measure up to him. He was never bored, as humans have diverse flavors, keeping him busy. Kashimo, who has reverted to his current form, is seemingly killed off.

Towards the end, the Domain containing Uraume and Hakari breaks as two people enter the battlefield. Higuruma Hiromi and Yuji Itadori enter the battlefield, but Sukuna immediately scoffs at Yuji. Yuji’s hands, however, seem to have been transformed into claws.

Final thoughts

A hint towards Yuji's Cursed Technique in chapter 222 (Image via Shueisha/Gege Akutami)

According to the Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 238 spoilers, the manga will go on a break next week. The editor’s comment at the end of the chapter calls it a “Tag team against the strongest,” implying that both Higuruma and Yuji will fight Sukuna in the coming chapters.

Yuji’s transfigured forearms might allude to his Cursed Technique, which has been hinted at throughout the series. In chapter 222, it was implied that Yuji’s Technique was related to body swap. However, according to the spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 238, it looks related to transfiguration. Hopefully, the official translation will provide a better insight.
