Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness have proven theirs is a very friendly divorce.
The estranged couple reunited at The Polo Bar in New York City in honour of the Wolverine star’s 55th birthday on Thursday night, with a witness telling Page Six that they’d had a “very happy” evening with their friends.
“Very happy time [had] by all. Think it was good birthday,” the source revealed.
Jackman’s spokesman also confirmed that Furness had joined him for the celebrations, telling the outlet: “Yes, it’s true. It was a lovely evening.”
The actor later took to social media to share a picture of himself enjoying a birthday drink, thanking fans for their outpouring of support.
“Thank you ALL for the birthday love!!! I’m reading your messages, seeing the special videos and experiencing all the feels,” Jackman captioned the Instagram post.
The former Australian golden couple has been based in New York for some time, where they raised their two children, Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18, largely out of the public eye.
Jackman and Furness announced their amicable separation after 27 years of marriage in a joint statement released last month.
“We have been blessed to share almost three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,” the statement read.
“Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.
“Our family has been and always will be our highest priority.
“We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness.
“We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.”
Jackman and Furness met in 1995 on-set of ABC TV production, Correlli, and married the following year in Toorak, Victoria.
Early in their relationship, Furness suffered two miscarriages, with the couple later adopting their two children.
News of their split came as a huge shock, with the duo long considered one of the strongest pairings in showbiz.
Jackman gushed over Furness for their 27th wedding anniversary in April in a sweet social media post.
“I love you Deb. Today is our 27th wedding anniversary. 27 YEARS!!” he wrote alongside a loved-up photo.
“Together we have created a beautiful family. And life. Your laughter, your spirit, generosity, humour, cheekiness, courage and loyalty is an incredible gift to me. I love you with all my heart.”
In February of that year, he also opened up about the secret to their enduring marriage, revealing they prioritised “honesty and intimacy”.
“You can’t just assume that things will just tick along OK. You have to make time,” he said on Smooth Radio at the time.
He added: “Intimacy is about really sharing what you’re going through, feelings, and checking in with the other person, checking in what they need from you, checking in, how they’re doing, checking and beyond.
“Just because it’s so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day of life. That’s hard enough. Kids, school runs, whatever it is, sleepless nights, it’s tiring. So you have to be checking in with each other.”
